Biography: Alta has been a writer of Blue Guides since 1970, and over forty titles covering Italy have come out under her authorship since then. In 1973 Alta moved to Florence where she has lived ever since with her husband the painter Francesco Colacicchi, and their son Giovanni. From 1975 to 1979 she was employed in the Photo Library of Alinari, responsible for photographic campaigns. From 1982 to 1998 she was project manager at Harvard University 's Villa I Tatti in Florence for the reproduction of the Berenson Photo Collection for the J. Paul Getty Museum in California. She is at present Photo Archivist for New York University at Villa La Pietra in Florence. As author of Blue Guides Florence, Venice , Rome , Tuscany , Umbria, and Central Italy Alta travels extensively every year to revise new editions of the books.
