FLORENCE: WHAT TO EAT AND WHERE

These are the Blue Guides Recommended restaurants in Blue Guide Florence:

Il Troia (Trattoria Sostanza)

Restaurant
Florence, Italy
€€
Via Porcellana 29
T: 055 212691
Founded in 1869, this has maintained the character of a genuine Florentine trattoria. It can sit only about 40 people in one long, narrow room with marble tables (some of which you share). Some elderly locals come here for lunch every day (and their napkins are kept for them). It has a restrained, distinguished atmosphere, with professional service. It serves traditional Tuscan fare and is particularly famous for its T-bone steaks (bistecca alla fiorentina). You are expected to eat a full meal, so if you are looking for a swift snack between sightseeing trips, this is not the place. There are two sittings for dinner: one at 7.30, and the other at 9 (when locals tend to come). It is always advisable to book in the evenings.Closed Sat and Sun in winter; Sun only in summer. No credit cards.
