In a palace on Florence’s smartest street, this is still named after its late 19th-century owners and it has a devoted clientèle (especially favoured by English academics). Since 1996 it has been very well run by an Australian who lives here with her family and provides the exceptionally friendly atmosphere. Rooms are large, all with their own bathrooms, and very quiet on an inner courtyard or overlooking the rooftops. The atmosphere is old-fashioned with simple marble floors. The charming main room has frescoes attributed to Tommaso Gherardini (1770). The Residence Angeli in the same building (and under the same management) has five rooms overlooking Via Tornabuoni so these are noisier (but the prices are therefore lower). Prices do not include breakfast, but this can be ordered on request.
