On the hillside below Fiesole in a splendid quiet position, approached by a drive which winds downhill from the road between Fiesole and Maiano. This is a charming old rambling villa owned by the very cordial Simoni family, who live here and have run the hotel since 1927. You are welcomed into its memorable old-fashioned atmosphere with numerous living rooms, a library and dining room which all retain their furnishings from the beginning of the 20th century. Beneath an ancient wisteria there is a lovely terrace on various levels which leads down past banksia roses into the garden and olive groves beyond, with stunning views of Florence. Half-board terms are very reasonable. Light lunches are also available to order and afternoon tea is always served between 3.30 and 6. Ideal also for families as it has spacious grounds with a swing and an old ping-pong table. You can leave your car here as it is a walk of less than 10mins to the nearest no. 7 bus stop (reached also by a charming narrow path up the hill) for Florence and Fiesole. An ideal place to avoid the heat and bustle of Florence in spring, summer and autumn, and yet within 30mins of the centre by bus, and it provides you with a very rare glimpse into the delightful life of a Florentine country villa.Closed from around 15 Nov–15 March.
