Visiting Venice, particularly for the first time, will of course include a trip to St Mark's square with it's basilica and the Doge's Palace, and a trip along the Grand Canal. These are the most-visited sights of Venice. Below we've suggested some of our favourite other sights, some off the beaten track, some central but much less visited, and others which convey the very soul of Venice.

Our suggestions are taken from Blue Guide Venice. The Blue Guide has far more information than is given here, this is meant only as a starting point in planning your trip:

  1. San Giorgio Maggiore and Il Redentore
  2. Scuola Grande di San Rocco
  3. Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari
  4. Gallerie dell'Accademia
  5. Ca' Rezzonico
  6. Madonna dell'Orto
  7. Santi Giovanni e Paolo
  8. Torcello
  9. Museo Correr
  10. San Sebastiano
