The Jerwood Space, which opened in 1998 in Southwark, behind Tate Modern, is the visual face of the Jerwood Foundation which, through the Jerwood Charity, funds a variety of cultural and visual arts projects. As well as providing space for dance and theatre companies and rehearsal studios, the complex includes the Jerwood Gallery, which has a changing programme of contemporary exhibitions. It is also the exhibition space of the Jerwood Foundation’s annual arts awards: the Jerwood Painting Prize; the Jerwood Artists Platform, which gives a selected emerging artist their first one-person show; the Jerwood Drawing Prize; and the Jerwood Sculpture Prize, the winner being awarded a commission for the Jerwood Sculpture Park at Ragley Hall. (The Jerwood Applied Arts Prize exhibition takes place at the Crafts Council Gallery). The café and restaurant in the Glasshouse is a stylish, minimalist place to have lunch. |
