We at Blue Guides were astonished when Amazon outed Drink & Think Venice for its explicit content.
Amazon AI tells us when reading the reviews on the Amazon store: “Customers find the book readable and brilliant… They appreciate the sex scenes with one noting it’s an excellent guide to Venice’s best drinking spots.”
Needless to say there are no sex scenes in Blue Guides, so this came as a surprise to our editorial office. When asked to comment, the author, Robin Saikia, directed our attention to a little-noticed passage on page 94:
“As she regarded the lofty Veronese ceiling depicting the Triumph of Mordecai, she sipped hungrily at the goblet of Prosecco served by her burly gondolier, longing for the moment when he would seize her in his arms and….”
(This of course does not appear in the book.)
But if Amazon’s AI hallucinates to this extent, perhaps the algorithms which help customers find what they are looking for are equally bad – see for example our articles on how to find the latest edition of Blue Guide Venice or the reprint of Blue Guide New York on Amazon.
