Alta Macadam, author
has written or contributed to:
Alta has been a writer of Blue Guides since 1970, and over 40 titles have come out under her authorship since then. She has lived in Italy since 1973 with her husband the painter Francesco Colacicchi. In 2017 she became an Italian citizen.

Alta continues to bring out new editions of the Blue Guides to Italy under her name by returning to visit all the places described, since she is convinced that there is no substitute to a visit on the ground. She has found that nothing can be taken for granted between one edition and the next. From each visit she learns something new and notices something else to include in the description of a place, with an enthusiasm and a freshness which can only be the result of inspiration gained from visiting the wonderful patrimony of Italy. She also carries out research for each new edition, with particular attention to new attributions often gleaned from the catalogues of the exhibitions held each year all over the country. Even though there has been a rapid proliferation of websites to help the traveller, there is also today a need to steer the reader to the best of these and those with the most reliable information.

Alta also enjoys writing regularly for this website: short articles inspired by her travels as well as reviews of exhibitions.
